Back again!

Well, how about this?!  I did get to sit down at my craft table after putting the boys to bed and this is what I made...

...the image is Verity standing, from Sugar Nellie Stamps and she is absolutely adorable!  I coloured her using PS, though I had to find a new way to go about it because of the pencil sketch style of the image, but she worked out lovely.  I decided to just use the top half of her, to give the image more impact and just had to try out my new beaded oval nesties to frame her!  I inked the frame, whilst still in the die, with Worn Lipstick DI using the Inkylicious dusting brushes - it is something I'll have to practice with...you have to be quite patient (something I'm not very good at!) and build up the colour gradually, but it gives a very soft effect.  The blue flower is from Wild Orchid Crafts, the white ones were from a spray of silk flowers and the tiny pink roses are from Crafts4u.  I finished the posie with pearl bead string and flower stems wound around my pokey tool.  A touch of glamour dust and a few diamantes finished it off, not to mention the beautiful giuper lace from WOC, that I had to put a metre of in my basket when ordering the flowers!  Once again, it's very girly, but I think it's apt for a girly image!

I also thought I'd post you a pic of a card we made at our last workshop...

..this one used the Mo Manning image, 'Sprout'.  It's quite a contrast to the Verity card, but I love it just the same...I'm not sure which one is more 'me' - on one hand I love pink and girly, but on the other I think this combination of green and orange is really funky.  The sentiment reads 'plant a seed of friendship...' and inside the insert reads, '...and reap a bouquet of happiness'.  The papers were from My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus paper pad and the flowers were an XCut punch I have.  Once again, I coloured the image using 'old faithful' and inked all the edges to tone down the billiard green cardstock that I used!  No glitter on this one, amazingly!

Hope you like them and take inspiration!  I'd best be off to feed the troops and get ready for a school meeting - they're (our local council) planning on closing 3 or 4 schools in the area and ours is on the chopping block, so we're trying to find ways of keeping our little village school open...

My craft room...

Hi guys,

I am uber busy at the moment doing design work for my next project and don't want to stop whilst I am on a roll and the creative juices are flowing - hence the shortage of posts yet again!  I am sorry!  Instead, I decided to update you on the progress of organising my craft area and just look at the result...

...I have to say, it's not always this tidy, but as I was hoping, in between crafting moments I can take 10 minutes and put everything away...plus, I know where everything is!!!  I know, it's not normal, and if I had spun around 360 degrees and taken a pic of the other side of the room, it would look a lot different to this! I am contemplating saving up and getting some more cabinets so that I can tidy away all DH's computer and electronic stuff (which is what I was talking about on the other side of the room!)  but until then, I have to be content with my tidy half of the craft/work/supposed to be dining room!

Well, I do have a card to share with you...

I made this little easel drawer after seeing Rachel's version that she made for her grandparents at Christmas.  I wanted to do something with Valentine's Day in mind and just loved Shy Valentine Nessa over at Mo Mannings shop and had to have her!  I coloured using PS (though I am seriously considering buying a set of Promarkers - I know, I know, where have I been?!)  The little drawer would be lovely lined and filled with expensive chocolates, or jewellry, what the heck, I'll have both!  The flowers were from in my stash, though I have invested in some paper roses from WOC, just haven't had chance to make something for fun with them yet!  Once again, designing takes over my life - when I'm not ironing that is!  I'm sure the neighbours are sneaking theirs in when I'm not looking, the pile seems to be never ending!  I am determined to sit at my now empty table and create something just for the heck of it, maybe once the kids are in bed I might get to play...until next time, Happy Crafting!

To someone spe-shell!

Hi, everyone!  Thought I'd post this pic of a card I made using a digistamp created from a photograph of my youngest, Josh (he looks a bit older now!)  I love the way it turned out and the play on words is fun, too!  I used Dovecraft Masculine 6 x 6 papers and coloured my image in PS - a bit of glitter accents the shell, though I'm toying with the idea of glazing it with Glossy Accents, it's just a large area not to get bubbles in!?!

As I write this, I am penned into the corner of my craft room, by the computer, as me and DH are in the middle of constructing kitchen cupboards that I bought yesterday to make my work area a bit...no, a lot...tidier!   I am sick of looking at a mish mash of shelves and boxes, so I'm hoping this way everything will be hidden away when I don't need it - I'll still be one of the messiest workers, that'll never change, but in between times, maybe there will be tidiness?!!  I'll let you know how I get on!! : )

First of the year!

Hi there, everyone!  Well, I have actually made my first cards of the year!  I have been struggling to get back in to things - I think because I had so many cards that I had to make before the holidays, that card making had become a chore, so these two are just for fun...

The first card I made, uses the Tilda with Sunflower stamp, coloured using my chalks, patterned papers from my stash (they were part of a pack -I think they are My Mind's Eye, Bloom & Grow), paper flowers from Crafts4U and some vintage lace that Mam kindly got me on her latest trip to Abakhan.  I inked all the edges of the papers and around the oval with Walnut Stain DI and accented with Glamour Dust...

...the end result was quite vintage, I thought?  I would love to receive it, so I suppose that must mean I'm happy with it!!

The second card I made using one of the clipart images from Arthur's Free Clipart, coloured with PS - I used the image before on 16th May 2010 post, but made it very fresh this time by using pastel patterned papers which have been in my stash for ages (they were individual sheets that I bought from my local craft shop).  The flowers were from Crafts4U again and the pearly bits I found in the back of my embellishments drawer...

...it ended up quite girly, who'd have thought it from me?!!  And as I said before, I think the expression on the little girl's face sums the sentiment up to a tee!

Hope you like them as much as I do, I thoroughly enjoyed making them, so maybe I'm finally getting back into the swing of things!  Happy crafting!

Happy New Year!

Hi guys!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year - a Happy New Decade, even!! 2011 has arrived at a hare's pace, it doesn't seem that long ago that we were celebrating a new millenium!!

Well, I'm still having issues with getting back into cardmaking at the minute, between shopping, visiting and just enjoying the festivities, crafting has been put on the shelf for a week and I'm just enjoying the holidays!  I did get to finish my brother's present (I don't know if you'll make it out from the photo, I should've staged it better, but hey-ho!)

I made a patchwork bed runner and cushions and a magnetic calendar, so it works no matter what the year...as he pointed out, the only thing is that he'll have to keep it updated, or he might still think it's three weeks last Tuesday!!

I got the most wonderful handmade bag from my SIL, I'd put an 'x' next to the one that I liked in the pattern book she got for Xmas last year - cheeky, I know - but it worked and I now have a lovely new handbag to show for it...and you can never have too many of those!

The boys are back in school next week, so I'm hoping to get back to some sort of order, once all the decorations are away and the presents have found places to live!  Our waning house is now bursting at the seams, we could do with an extension...scrap that, we just need a bigger house - or less stuff?!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I'll hopefully have more to show you in the next couple of weeks...best wishes for 2011!

Sorry for the lack of posts, again!!

The days seem to be flying by, I can't believe it's Christmas a week on Saturday!  Although I've been busy making cards, I have, uselessly, managed to photograph none of them!!  I must have made well over 50 cards in the last month between orders for local people, to fill my 'box' in a nearby restaurant and to give to the local Xmas fair for selling, and I am pretty much carded out!  I can't wait for all the orders to be completed and Christmas holidays to be here, so that I can just play when I want to...not to mention getting my craft room back to some sort of order...again!!  We put the tree up on the weekend and there are now empty boxes that the decorations came out of, strewn around the house - I don't know where to put them all because it won't be long and I'll need them to put the decorations away again!  It seems a lot of hassle for a day, but it's worth it when you see the excited faces on Christmas morning!

Hope everyone is recovering from the snow, mind you, they're threating us with it again by the end of the week - it was beautifully pretty, but a total inconvenience.... we didn't have the snow too deep, just minus 13 degree temperatures!!  I went through a month's coal in a fortnight trying to keep the house warm!  I'm trying to fit in making by brother and sister-in-law's Christmas presents, I have warned them that it is what they asked for and not to expect too much, but it's much more personal...I promise to take a photograph and post it after Christmas Day (in case they happened to hop by!)  Last year, I made them a patchwork owl doorstop...

... he was rather lovely and I would've been quite happy to keep it myself if they hadn't like it!  Plus I did a pair of encaustic art landscapes, something else I would like to have a play with over the holidays.

I hope to post something for you all soon, once I have my Mojo back and can face what, at the moment is, the dreaded cardboard!  Until then, happy crafting!

Get crafty for Christmas!

Hi there everyone!  Another week has passed by and it gets closer to Christmas by the day!  With that in mind, I decided to make something that could be given as a gift and created this gift set...

The contents are a bottle of Shower Gel and face cloth, which I bought for a total of 35p!!  I created the desk caddy using this template, which is available to download here...I then decorated with brown card panels on the front and back, and embossed 2 strips of card using the woodgrain folder from Craft Concepts, inked with Rusty Hinge and Walnut Distress Inks and wrapped around the box and face cloth.  I cut a piece of light card to cover the label of the shower gel, embossed and inked, then attached using glue - I decorated with the anchor and skull medallion, from the pirate range on the Boys2Men disc.  After wrapping the whole thing with cellophane, it looked more than 35p worth of product - what do you think?

It would be ideal if you know someone who likes different brands of products, so you could coordinate them into a gift set.
I've made 2 templates, one for this smaller desk caddy/gift box and one for a larger version...you could always add dividers and use them as desk caddies, or whatever you like, I just thought it was a good way to make your money go further, by making it look like a gift set rather than separate products.
(NOTE: set the page scaling to 'None' in Adobe Reader before sending to print)

Next, I saw a fantastic halloween door hanger over at Lily's Art Creations and was inspired, but wanted to incorporate one of the Boys2Men images and came up with this...

To get the robot so big, I opened the robot topper sheet, then using my snapshot tool, highlighted all the pieces labelled 'A' then clciked print - I made sure my paper size was set to A4, that the Auto rotate and centre box was checked and that the page scaling was set to 'Fit to Printable area', this gives you the robot and all the decoupage layers scaled to fit the page.  I made the sign using a piece of card embossed with woodgrain and inked with Walnut, then cut out the name using a Sissix alphabet die set and the word room was silver peel off letters.  I attached to the robot by puching holes in the last decoupage layer of the robot's feet and along the top of the sign, then connected using jump rings.
I think it would make a nice personalised gift if put in a box and decorated with the robot image - might do that later!

With Christmas getting ever more expensive and purse strings getting tighter, I think we should be making more gifts for people, to try and make it more personal - my brother and sister-in-law made our presents last year, and they were fantastic, they made homemade jam, sloe gin and cookies and I got a handmade apron, which was made from bright orange flame material and orange netting trim, it was amazing!
